This might be not extra performant, but works:

find ./ -name "*.el" -exec emacs -batch {} --eval="(progn 
(delete-trailing-whitespace) (and (buffer-modified-p) (save-buffer)))" \;

I think that Dan is right and developers should take care about this
before they commit changes.
