USANA Health Sciences has a very persuasive sales pitch: Its products will help
you live longer and get rich. Now who wouldn't want that? Founded in 1992 by
microbiologist Myron Wentz, USANA sells nutritional supplements and
personal-care products through a network of 119,000 sales reps. Need a
soap-free skin cleanser, a vitamin packed with antioxidants, or toothpaste made
with green tea? A USANA rep will be happy to help.
The Salt Lake City company's sales more than doubled in the past three years to
$270 million. The stock has shot up six-fold in the same time frame to a recent
$40 per share. Someone has been taking their vitamins.
