Segmentation fault while building Emacs v22.1

Hello,

I am attempting to build Emacs v22.1 on an HLFS (Hardened Linux From Scratch) version of the Linux kernel at 2.6.20.7. I am seeing a segmentation fault during the "
LC_ALL=C ./temacs -batch -l loadup dump" stage of the build (NOTE: I am using gcc version 4.1.2). I looked at the stack trace in the core file and it didn't really give me any clues (failed on line 1373 of sysdep.c). I looked through /etc/PROBLEMS and searched with google to see if this is a common problem -- I didn't find anything related. My last resort is to send this email as a plea for help!! See details on the problem below...

Thanks,
Chris
