bug#538: 23.0.60; *shell* buffer fails to execute commands

Hello!

Since a few weeks I see *shell* can't perform the same way as an  
xterm or an Apple Terminal do. For example the command

	grep -i latex-mode /Volumes/Halde/_neu/timer.sh /Volumes/Halde/_neu/

It finds also the faulty file, but with too much noise, so much, that  
it's hard to see the success.
