This node uses `char-valid-p' and refers to generic characters, but
the byte-compiler now says that `char-valid-p' is obsolete and generic
characters no longer exist.
Also, the NEWS description of the change eliminating generic characters
is not clear to me, probably because I'm not clear on what generic
characters are (were). ;-) I wonder if Emacs Lisp users of more than
one Emacs release couldn't use a little more explanation of what
generic chars were, why they are no longer used, and what takes their
place today (what is now used for the purpose they used to serve).
In GNU Emacs 23.0.60.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600)
of 2008-06-29 on LENNART-69DE564
Windowing system distributor `Microsoft Corp.', version 5.1.2600
configured using `configure --with-gcc (3.4) --no-opt --cflags -Ic:/g/include
-fno-crossjumping'
