> As to a version of Emacs Trunk built this morning (August 7, 2014), it is no
longer possible to set the frame size using pixelwise immediately following a call
of `make-frame`, or when launching Emacs.
Can you tell me the date of the last build where this worked for you?

This should work, indeed. Does it work correctly by evaluating just
(set-frame-size frame 1894 1054 t)
interactively?

I hope it continues to work for you on Windows. Here setting the
initial size works as expected on Windows. I don't have OSX to test it.
BTW, does "maximizing" your frame on OSX work?
