Do you see the same problem with "emacs -Q"?
I had the same problem with version 24.4, and I found out that it was due to a (setq file-coding-system-alist ("" utf-8 . utf-8)) in my init.el file. Removing that part fixed the problem. -- Gianluca Della Vedova http://gianluca.dellavedova.org
