This was a year ago, so it doesn't seem like anybody had any input
here. The image code has changed a lot since the original bug report
(only ten years ago), so I think it's likely that the problem has gone
away, and I'm closing this bug report. If anybody's still seeing
problems with sliced images in this manner, please reopen.
