Someone was somehow able to upload a gnus feature branch in the
official repo and get core devs to test it.

Is this what you're referring to when you say "push a feature/foo"
branch?  Currently when I "git clone http://git.sv.gnu.org/git/emacs.git";, git 
just
hangs.
