bug#43909: 26.1; read syntax breaks prettify-symbols

I also tried this with emacs-26.1 (in *scratch*) and saw nothing
unexpected.  A recipe for emacs -Q and an explanation of what
"interfere" exactly means would be nice @marmot-te.
