Oops, I now see that I am not running under Gnome under Wayland. At least, $ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPEoutputs "x11". So, forget all my comments about Wayland. It's the default Ubuntu 20.04 Gnome windowing manager.
But we still have a bug here. Why is the Emacs xwidgets code complaining about not having native x11 access?
