The patch apparently never arrived, so I've now added Titus' functions
to Emacs 29.

It looks like a modified version of this patch was already merged as 4a50af936e24b5f71df4079beb6dde82ed1955c2, which shipped with Emacs 25. I'm not totally sure, but from looking at the various functions, it seems the older patch is a bit more robust in the face of different configuration.
