(I'm going through old bug reports that unfortunately weren't resolved
at the time.)
This was a very long thread, and I did not read it all, but if I
understand this correctly, Stefan's patch fixed the issue, so I'm
closing this bug report. If that's a mistake, please respond to the
debbugs address and we'll reopen.
