None, indeed. Even without long lines, C-n and C-p are not 100% accurate.
This feature comes at a (IMO) very little price, namely... point sometimes moves to another column...

He is careful to minimize the issue, but he doesn't say "I see no problem with that."
I wasn't "careful to minimize the issue", I state what it was black on white. I was careful to minimize its impact, however: it could have been much worse. What we now have is that sometimes, but rarely, point moves to another column. That doesn't make Emacs unusable, does it?
