errors with ./configure

I'm trying to confiugre binutils using the ./configure command from the
cygwin environment on an NT machine.  The following error occurs when trying
to configure: 'checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... eval: 1: Syntax error:
Unterminated quoted string Configure in /cygdrive/d/binutils-2.10.1/intl
failed, exiting.'  I've looked at the configure file in the intl directory,
it seems all the quotes are present.

Can anyone help me?
