[Bug-gnubg] Maastricht

Hi folks,

a few news about the computer olympiade in Maastricht, Netherlands (next
week):

1. Only two participants (bgblitz and gnubg). Effects didn't answer, a
German games distributor (A&K Spiele, Kassel) was interested using
Jellyfish but then dropped, Oasya dropped while saying "there is nothing
to win".

2. I will pay the entry fee of $ 25 for gnubg (Don't praise me for that,
I will certainly have a lot of fun for that few bucks).

2. Frank Berger and me agreed to play a best of 5 13-p matches (two
matches on Saturday and the remaining matches on sunday, 7th of july).

3. We'll use two notebooks (a MAC and a 1ghz celeron running under
linux) and a standalone dice generator (to keep idiots away saying some
of the bots will cheat). Seed will be the Dow-Jow-Index on friday night
;-).

4. I will use 2-ply evaluation, no pruning, no reduced evaluation,
evaluation incl. cube, 8 cand., search space 0,160. Is that ok for you
all? (More would be to slow for my notebook.)

5. After the tournament the matches will be published somewhere. I also
plan to write a small article in Kit Woolsey's Gammonline and in
GammonVillage (Michael Strato asked for it).

6. If there is a chance and if someone is interested I will email the
matches directly afterwards to the list (depending on the surroundings
in Maastricht).

7. I'm a bit disappointed about the reactions (or should I say
"noreactions") of other bg programmers (especially the commercial
programs). I got only two answers after my call in r.g.b and had to
phone to a few distributors to get at least a declination.I don't
understand this behave, because at least for Snowie this would have a
great marketing effect.

Compared to chess (at least 5 commercial programms and a lot of free
engines) this sounds a bit sad.

8. Nonetheless my motivation arises to help making gnubg a better
programm than Snowie 4.0 ;-).

Ciao

Achim (aka acepoint)
