Yes, I think that it might be smart to have a different image as a icon, I
also think the icon should follow these guidelines:
http://developer.ximian.com/articles/tutorials/icons/
and
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/1.0/icons.html

I think a web logo can be bitmap format, however bitmaps look bad when
printed in paper documents. For documents, Albert's tutorial, I think it
would be best with vector based logo. (my opinion)

I can live with three different logos.

Yes, I've thought about this for a while. The obvious prize is of course a
free copy of GNU Backgammon. Simple as that!
