I have just committed patches to gnubg to import sessions from Hans
Berliner's ~25 year old BKG program (BKG can play matches as well as
money games, but it doesn't save enough information to be able to
determine the match parameters. I'm not sure how well it understood
match play in any case, so it seems safest to stick to money sessions
at the moment.)
For those interested, I ran a session of BKG 9.9 playing against itself
(2930 moves in 113 games, which took 4 minutes of CPU time on an
emulated DEC KL10, running TOPS-20, aka TWENEX, on twenex.org). Here
is what gnubg thinks about BKG 9.9:
Cubeless error rate: 0.024 per move (0.273ppg)
Cubeful error rate: 0.448ppg
Chequer play: Intermediate
Cube decisions: Beginner
Overall rating: Casual player
Tends to double too late (around DP, missed doubles are worse than wrong
doubles; around TG, wrong doubles are worse than missed doubles.)
Takes seem OK (wrong takes and wrong drops are about even).
I can forward a copy of the games if anybody is curious (let me know
what format you want).
Cheers,
Gary.
