There should definitely be something. I've always found the JF style arrows to 
be very obvious. Click on the side of the board you want to be on roll. (Click 
on the centre to set initial position?) An arrow isn't necessarily the best 
marker; how about a dice cup?

Whatever marker is chosen should be visible during play as well as editing.

Please, please, please! Perhaps click on each side of the board to bring up the 
right colour dice and set the turn?
And the dice window itself would be another (extra) place to allow the user to 
change who was on roll.
