I haven't heard of exactly this behavior, though I heard of similar things.
Can you ask her to try one of Nardy's snapshots. Nardy keeps several builds
at his site. I recommend that she tries in this order: First the latest
build from the CVS. If that doesn't work she may try the build without
freetype. And if that doesn't work either she can try the 021212 build. All
of these builds can be found at Nardys fantastic site.
