[Bug-gnubg] Windows build 030203 crashes

This is a repeating problem when opening the hint window,
but usually just gnubg crashes, not my whole computer. 
This time it took the whole thing down.

I try to open the hint window, and a DOS window pops up
with either an infinite loop or a LOOONNNNGG do-loop
writing to a text file.  Sometimes I can minimize the DOS
window and make another play or two, but the computer
responds slowly.  Sometimes I can shut gnubg down by
forcing the DOS window to close, but today nothing would
respond -- had to do a hard reboot.

I'm running WIN98SE, 360 MB RAM.
