Your PC (Windows ME) crashes when you run GNU Backgammon for Windows. It
complains about 'freetype.dll'.

How to install a working GNU Bg for Windows?

1. Download the Installation Archive from Øystein's site.
URL: http://home.online.no/~oeysteij/
Direct access: http://home.online.no/%7Eoeysteij/setup.exe

2. Install the Installation Archive (run setup.exe) and try to remember (not
needed however) _where_ it is installed on your PC (the directory or
folder).

3. Browse to the directory GNU Bg is installed. ( most likely will be:
c:\program files\gnubg )
If you can't find it, right click on the gnubg icon on your desktop. You'll
get a window (tab Shortcut selected). Click on the button 'Find target...'.
That will open the directory, the file gnubg.exe being already selected.
Delete the file gnubg.exe (it is possible you don't see the .exe extension.
if so, delete gnubg).
*keep the window (content of folder) open*

4. Get the build without Freetype.
URL: http://www.gnubg.org/win32/GNUBgW.htm (section 2c)
Direct access: http://users.skynet.be/bk228456/gnubg_nofree-030530Zip.exe
Run that file. It will extract gnubg_nofree-030530.exe into the gnubg
folder.
Go back to the window 'content of folder' and rename gnubg_nofree-030530.exe
to gnubg.exe. (rightclick on the filename, choose 'rename' and handtype
gnubg.exe. press Enter)

5. Get the LibArt DLL (this one is needed for recent builds).
URL: http://www.gnubg.org/win32/GNUBgW.htm (section 2a)
Direct access: http://users.skynet.be/bk228456/libsenzo/libartZip.exe
Run that file. It will extract libart_lgpl.dll into the gnubg folder.

That's it.

Double click the gnubg icon on your desktop, and the program should run
smoothly.

Nardy

PS:
To get a more recent build afterwards, just repeat 4.
