I would say no to both, I can't think of any reason to keep gtk1
compatibility (a lot of new things won't work anyway).
Also guile hasn't been supported for a long time, so also doesn't work.

If you remove gtk1 you can also remove checks for gtkglarea (if there
are any).

It would mean we could start tidying up some of the code and remove
areas that we've had to duplicate.  I might start with the main()
routine, as I wanted to look at the save settings code.
