Hi all, Hi Achim, Hi NArdy, Hi Adrian,
on http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/91305 (german!) I read that
gnubg again became runner up and Frank (BGBlitz) won the title for the
third time now?
Yes, indeed ;)
Congrats to Frank (he's reading this list also).
Thanks a lot ;)
Any chance to get a
small report or the matches?
The matches in HTML against GnuBG are here :
http://www.bgblitz.com/matches/Amsterdam_BGB_GNU_m1.html
and here
http://www.bgblitz.com/matches/Amsterdam_BGB_GNU_m2.html
As matfiles they are here: http://www.bgblitz.com/download/
amsterdam_2007.zip
The games were on a pretty high level with several turnarounds and a
lot of interesting games. The first match was a little lopsided as
you see at the score (16-4) with only 7 games. The 2nd game was much
closer and more exiting. (15-11 with 14 games).
Nardy run both through the analyzer with rollouts at the critical
moves. IIRC in the 2nd match BGB got 2040 although there were 2 moves
that looked a little weired. The first match had 2031, but the
rollouts were still going on so the final result might be higher
(Nardy told me that a lot of moves flagged as non optimal turned out
to be correct in the rollouts)
.
@Nardy: Is the rollout ready now? Cn you send me a copy of the files?
And the files GnuBG -McGammon so I have a complete set to put on my
website.
All in all we had a very good weekend and due to Nardys sparkling
humor we had really a lot laughs. (And attending a live tournament at
Saturday evening at the Amsterdam BG Club was an extra bonus)
McGammon used a MonteCarlo approach. That workes in Go extrenely well
and pushed Go-programs further.
With only a little rule based knowledge McGammon failed and it didn't
won a single game. nevertheless I regard the approach as good and
they might come up with something better in a year or two. At least
a new competitor is always a good thing.
>However, having won the Silver, we're definitely going to have to find
>someone in the community to go to Beijing next year to get the gold
back...
Oh yeah, Beijing. I'm sure I wont attend physically (too far, too
expensive), but maybe we can get an local operator.....
I will have some pages on my website ready at the end of the week
with some pictures.
ciao
Frank
