The names of the players are stored in a global variable. Each time you open a
match or game the global names are set to the name in that match. That's why.
I agree with you that it should not be like this.
I also believe that there's to many global variable in gnubg. This makes the
code unmaintainable and hard to extend. This problem is addressed before, but I
think we're missing resources (and/or motivation) to do a refactoring.

I opened the saved match (sgf). After I finished viewing it, I clicked
Ctrl-N and selected (GNU backgammon vs. human). The names of the
players were unchanged, which is not what I expected.
