Not entirely true about the sigmoid. The patch I've suggested used
instructions from SSE2 which is independent of which compiler you use
for building.

Yes! I can't see any reason why that should not work.

I think you can use gcc4 builds and abandon the gcc3 builds entirely.
(Unless you feel it's unstable or anything.)
