No.  It is Stallman, who said he asked the lawyers already.

I also researched it myself (for US copyright) on
http://www.loc.gov/copyright, which is where I concluded that "more than
one physical line" is ok.

The Library of Congress site also does not say anything about it being
ok to use ranges or abbreviations.  It just says to use the year of
publication.  This is consistent with the lawyer's position.

If you don't want to, don't, but I'm pretty sure that for US legal
purposes, it is best to avoid ranges and abbreviations.
