The master source for gettext.m4 is in the gettext releases, and for the
moment I don't want to drop support for autoconf-2.13. (Yes, as long as
noone makes an autoconf-2.58 release that fixes the most cumbersome
bugs in autoconf-2.57 I understand people like Tom Dickey who are afraid
to upgrade to the autoconf 2.5x series. Also Mandrake 9.1 installs
autoconf-2.13 by default, not autoconf-2.57.)

What was the actual problem that this AC_REQUIRE([gt_HEADER_INTTYPES_H])
call was causing?
