Sounds good.  Can you please do that?  I'm a bit worried that if I did
it, some leftover from the symlink would bite the Emacs repository.
(Or if you think any of us could do it please let us know.)

Yes.  Just a point of clarification: we currently have 3 regex
implementations in use: Emacs's, gnulib/lib/regex.[ch] (used by
coreutils, diffutils, etc), and glibc's.  Emacs's and gnulib's are
fairly similar, but glibc's is quite different.

The proposal is to remove a 4th implementation gnulib/regex.[ch], a
snapshot of an old Emacs implementation that nobody uses now.
