I haven't tried it. I hope it works, and don't see why it wouldn't
work. I haven't tested it, though. For my own stuff I was planning
to just switch to 2.60 and stop using onceonly_2_57.m4.

Autoconf 2.59c (soon 2.60) uses the m4/onceonly_2_57.m4 code, not the
m4/onceonly.m4 code. So (unless I'm missing something) your hope will
be realized.
