Not many people use that option, but it's there and it should work.

Right, I was just making a quip as to that effect. :-)

Progress is good, but as you say, skipping fdopendir (for now) on platforms that don't have it (i.e. "historical behavior") should be fine, given how infrequently this is used.

(Also, apologies for dropping bugs-gzip, I'm used to gmane handling cross-posting, but obviously it doesn't if the list isn't on gmane. Paul: I take it you have not heard back from them yet?)
