Instead of this:

try using this together with Autoconf >= 2.61:

AS_IF([test x"$with_ssl" = xgnutls],
[  dnl Now actually check for -lssl

[  dnl here comes the else part, if any (otherwise remove this argument)

The AS_IF of Autoconf 2.61 will cause all m4_require'd/AC_REQUIRE'd
macros to be expanded outside of the conditional.
