  - regarding the mingw bug: it doesn't matter if there was a bit of extra
    output before it.
  - regarding the Cygwin bug, it means that for a few months Cygwin users
    won't see this friendly message. But this message was already absent for
    the last 10 years, not only on Cygwin, but on all platforms, and its
    absence did not cause much damage.
