Unfortunately, this does not seem to work either (AIX 6.1, xlC 10.1,
gettext-0.17). I hit the error "1506-299 (S) Maximum #include nesting depth
of 255 has been exceeded" again. I will post details in a few days.

Strangely enough, looks like IBM was also aware of the problem:
