Not as far as I can see. Solaris /bin/awk doesn't have the match and
sub functions, and has several other limitations over POSIX awk.
The Autoconf manual documents some of these limitations

and the gawk manual has a pretty informative section about awks too
<http://www.gnu.org/software/gawk/manual/html_node/Language-History.html>.
On Solaris, you should be able to use nawk or /usr/xpg4/bin/awk.
