cloning gnulib from behind a firewall

I'd like to clone gnulib from behind my company's firewall.

The ports for git and cvs are closed, so I tried http, and obtained the error
below.

        export http_proxy=...
        git clone http://git.savannah.gnu.org/gnulib.git
        Cloning into gnulib...
        fatal: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/gnulib.git/info/refs not found: did
you run git update-server-info on the server?

I'm a novice regarding git, but this looks to me like my problem requires a
solution on the savannah end, correct?

Any help that would allow me to grab a copy of gnulib while behind the firewall
would be appreciated.

Ben
