It's possible, though not likely.  It would explain the symptoms
of one of the failed tests that Nelson H.F. Beebe reported:
for diffutils:

FAIL: test-dup2
===============

test-dup2.c:150: assertion failed

This is DragonFly v3.2.2-RELEASE x86_64.

With luck the change will fix the failed test.
More likely, we have more work to do.

PS.  There is no limit on the Hurd, right?  That is, the
default is 1024 but the tests can be run in an environment
where it's unlimited.
