No, the error is the same.

I see this in the configure output:
./configure: line 7680: test: =: unary operator expected

$ sed -n 7680p configure
  if test $HAVE_STRTOUMAX = 0 || test $REPLACE_STRTOUMAX = 1; then
        
Hence why I thought the problem was with HAVE_STRTOUMAX.

(I no longer have access to a Solaris 8 box; my oldest
Solaris antique is running Solaris 9.)

It's broken on Solaris 9 aswell.
