I don't think, it would be possible to have gnustep-base be prepared 
for ALL eventualities ...

Hmm, what I like about the whole setup is, that (usually) there is no
need for autoconf/configure ...

*sigh* GNUSTEP_HOST_OS should do the trick ... as it's already defined
on shell level.
