I 'rm -rf'd /usr/GNUstep, and built again from scratch.  Everything seemed to 
work fine this time, only now all attempts to make a gnustep project can't find 
libgnustep-base.so.1, even though I've done ldconfig since reinstalling.
Guess I'll go and ask in help-gnustep to find out what's wrong!
