Well, on my darwin machine, the freetype in X11R6 doesn't work, and the
one with fink does. Perhaps I'm weird though. Can you try to compile
without the fink freetype. Just go into gnustep-back-0.9.5 and type
./configure --enable-backend=art
make
to see if it works.
