Error building gnustep-startup-0.10.2

From: Harris, Stephen
Subject: Error building gnustep-startup-0.10.2
Date: Thu, 5 May 2005 13:36:02 -0400

Hello,

I am trying to build gnustep.

I did this:

$ gunzip gnustep-startup-0.10.2.tar.gz
$ tar xf gnustep-startup-0.10.2.tar
$ cd gnustep-startup-0.10.2
$ ./configure
$ gmake
InstallGNUstep

                          GNUstep Installation

     This is an automatic installation script for GNUstep.

This script tries to build and install the core libraries for
GNUstep. Log files of the build process are kept so that if some
part of the build does not work, you can send the log files to
our attention (at bug-gnustep@gnu.org). From these we can try to
determine what the problem is.

WARNING: You are not logged in as root

GNUstep needs to be installed with root privileges. If you
do not have root privileges, you can also install GNUstep if
you have sudo access or you can install it in your home
directory. If you have no idea what any of this means, you
should choose option two (2) below (or quit (option 9) and read
your computer manual on installing programs as root).

1) I have sudo access in order to install GNUstep
2) I want to install GNUstep in my home directory
3) I know what I'm doing and I don't need special permissions
q) I want to quit and start over.

There was a problem checking the configuration of you system.
One possible cause is that you do not have a C or Objective-C
compiler on your system
Please see the instructions that came with your operating system
for installing the GNU GCC compiler and installing a developer
system for compiling programs

It looks like the `missing' script is the problem? How do I proceed?

Thanks in advance.
