here is a thorough rundown of how multiple selection works in table views on
the mac, and why i believe we shouldn't emulate it

Heres a snippet in case the url disappears:
The selection grows in both directions and never shrinks. In the unanchored
selection model Shift-Down always extends the selection range downward and
Shift-Up always extends it upward.
