Follow-up Comment #1:
I can't find a maintainer for gnustep macports, so if anyone knows who that
is, they need to be in on this discussion so this can be fixed. First there
seems to be a configuration error when macports configures gnustep-base,
setting:
GNUSTEP_MAKEFILES=/opt/local/share/GNUstep/Makefiles
which is not correct. Also there's the ffcall test error, which I put into
gnustep-base recently. ffcall doesn't work on osx since at least 10.4, so this
is a valid error. However, in many cases ffcall will just silently fail and
not be able to do things like DO, and perhaps some people are OK with that. In
that case I could change this to a warning. The real alternative, though is to
use libffi instead (I recently make a libffi-gcc4.2.2.tar.gz release on the
gnustep ftp site to make this easier).
