Follow-up Comment #10, bug #25307 (project gnustep): So, as you can see, in our case. The ONLY cases which fail in the single threaded case are those for NSConditionLock. I believe this sufficiently confirms the observed behavior to reinstate the previous change and to also change NSLock tryLock to behave accordingly.
