Details:

Absolute install paths are commonly used on OS X and save a lot of hassles
looking up indirect libraries. This is true in particular when porting GNUstep
projects which follow the sloppy Unix habits of specifying library search path
on incompletely. This is OK for an elf linker, but the OS X linker is a bit
more picky here. See also the recent OS X related discussions on
gnustep-discuss.
Therefore, I would like to see --enable-absolute-install-paths become the
default on OS X (at least for the gnu-gnu-gnu combo).
