Details:

Surely after well over three years since they were deprecated, it's about
time that the generation of old environment variables such as
GNUSTEP_SYSTEM_ROOT was retired.

I'd replace the current --enable-strict-v2-mode configuration option with
something like a --enable-partial-pre-v2-support option (with the opposite
sense to the current option of course).
