I reproduce the warning with texinfo version 7.1, but not with 7.0.3 or older.

But the ChangeLog entry is misleading. The primary effect of the change is
to make the title line of the detailed menu appear; this is true with
version 7.1 as well as older versions (such as 6.3). I changed the ChangeLog
entry to:
doc: Make the detailed menu title appear as intended.
* doc/gperf.texi (Top): Add a line break after @detailmenu.
and committed it in your name.
