Follow-up Comment #2:
This was discussed some years ago. I believe the consensus view was that it's
worthwhile to fix trailing spaces and tabs on lines when they're in the
vicinity of a different fix being made (say, within the same diff hunk), but
not to undertake a commit just for the sake of getting rid of them, as this
patch proposes.
I suspect some of them have been fixed anyway in the past 4+ years.
