With the chainloader it is possible to load Solaris 8 (x86) and
I think (not tested) also Solaris 7.
I always install Solaris on a second hard disk (in my case /dev/sdb)
and for this I configure the SCSI controller to use the second disk
as boot disk. So the SCSI ID stays fix (important to boot later on),
but the second disk is treated as primary boot device.
After installation I reconfigure the SCSI controller back to use
the first disk as primary. So I used Lilo with /boot/chain.b to
boot solaris.
Now I tested it with GRUB:
Solaris is on (hd1,1) and I used following lines:
title Solaris
rootnoverify (hd1,1)
chainloader (hd1,1)+1
... and it boots ...
(I think `chainloader +1' is enough here ....)
So GRUB can also boot SUN SOLARIS (pc version) !!
With friendly regards
Christoph P.
